Website and Web Service Reviews
How active a blog is, is primarily decided by the number of comments or responses that each post on the blog gets. The more the comments, the more the buzz surrounding the blog. High traffic does not necessarily mean more comments.

It is the quality of the posts and the content in them that determine the number of comments. Comments on a blog indicate the level of interaction a blog has with its readers and are very important in determining the loyalty of visitors and readers. Here are a few tips that can definitely help in increasing comments on a blog.
This is one sureshot way to create buzz for your blog. Write about something that you feel strongly about. Don’t create controversy for the sake of creating one. And never deviate from facts. If you believe in something and write with passion, comments, readers and traffic will soon follow
To encourage comments on your blog, you can give rewards to your top commenters. It could be cash, a month of free advertising or a review, link love, top commenters list etc. These prizes are certainly not going to break your bank but at the same time encourages people to comment for the little incentives and lets them know that you appreciate their interest in your blog.
Blogs with resources only have few comments on them. This is because they are simply offering content but not encouraging interaction. To encourage comments, simply ask your readers’ opinion or suggestion after a post or put up a Q and A feature on your blog. When you ask people for opinion, they are more likely to give it and that’s a fact.
By managing comments effectively, you need to provide an environment on your blog that makes commenters feel welcome. A few tips you can follow include
DOs
DON’Ts
This is perhaps most well-known and helps to not only increase comments but also bring new readers to your blog. Commenting on less-popular blogs would easily catch the eye of that blogger and gets you a reader with almost no effort. Also, other readers from that blog may feel interested in visiting your blog as well, getting you additional traffic.
Are there any other methods that you follow to increase comments on your blog? Let me know!

Nice points buddy . I try to comment regularly on others blog , it is a great way to get your blog and contents noticed.
Absolutely, that is the first thing to do build a visitor base for your blog!
Nice post. I hate it when they make you register just to make a comment. You may also want to add that you shouldn’t have your blog full of too many paid advertisements. I don’t understand why they have such a high PR rank because I would never read a blog that did that on a regular basis.
I certainly agree with you.. A blog that looks like a classifieds page does not help in bringing any comments.. Thanks for your comments Frank!
Control your comments: Don’t public all – It’s my Ex,

k3lvin, here at Siteguide, Akismet has been very effective in curbing spam and spam comments.
The only problems I’ve had with it is when it used to catch legit comments as spam as well. Now, I dont have that problem as well..
I am not sure of the blogger spam catching system, but if you are on wordpress then I am sure you can leave the comments unmoderated..
Thanks for your comments..
Can always add a blog contest based on comments it worked for me.

That’s an interesting idea as well.. But, I guess managing those comments would be a arduous job! Do let me know how it goes for you!
I agree with all the tips! Great post
Thanks Haris! Glad you liked it!
Ok “nice post” is what most people who just want to comment for commenting sake would just say. quite uninterractive if you ask me. All 5 of your tips are what I practice at my blog. Recently I got a tip from visiting another blog about turning down askimet to moderate only comments with more than 1 link in them. so far so good its been very effective and am sure more pleasureable for the visitor. I never really like seeing “your comment is in moderation” when I leave comments on other blogs.
Not to be too lengthy, I just ran a link love would I call it contest where I give 2 link backs from my front page for 1 comment left anywhere in my blog. The result, the daily number of visitor I have averagely rose from 10 to 50. I think it was successful. what do you think? Or better still leave a comment, I just might do it again :-d
For me, moderation is certainly not a problem with Akismet catching over 10k spam so far.. Akismet is quite impressive even for blogs with 100s of comments a day..
So, I wouldnt recommend moderation if you want more interaction on your blog
Thank you for the tips, I know there is some work to be done, Im new to blogging, and learning a little more each day. Thanks for contributing to my education!
I am glad I could help, Sue! Do let me know if you have any other questions.. Thanks for your comments!
Besides the fun, commenting on other blogs can bring you new friends, not only readers for your blog. Dialogue is always nice.
Exactly, it is probably the best way to make friends online! Thanks for your comments, Simonne
I second Simonne above.. I am always surprised how many of them will come back to check out your blog and may be they’d even subscribe! a very nice post Vijay
Commenting is one of the most time consuming yet most worthwhile tasks that a blogger can do to promote his/her blog.
You bring up a lot of good points, especially the one about the subscribe to comments box being “prechecked”. If it is a popular post then your mailbox can fill up quickly.
@Pearl: Putting in a nice comment on a blog will certainly catch the attention of the author.. However this applies mostly to relatively smaller blogs…
@Neena: Sometimes, I actually make it a point not to comment on blogs that have the box prechecked.. It is a sure turn off to commenting!
Both of you, thanks for your wonderful comments!

Thanks for your tips! I’ve been thinking about this topic lately, so I appreciate the ideas.
Hi Vijay,
I admit I was guilty of having that checkbox ticked. I’m not lacking comments on my blog, but will be interested to see how it pans out after I unticked the box.
I’m still moderating comments because Akismet doesn’t work 100 %. And I don’t want to end up with “sex” related comments on my blog, even if it is only for a few hours between log-ins.
If there is however a fool proof way, then I would love to hear about it as I happily turn moderation off.
Great post, it will be difficult to vote for winners.
Holli Jo, I am glad you’ve found this article useful!
Monika, I find that Akismet works better with time and the longer it is on your blog, the better.
Usually, the pr0n related comments are long winded with a 50 links atleast and these are easily caught.. The shorter spam comments like “hey great blog” are sometimes missed, however.
I would recommend you turn off moderation for a day or half a day and see how it works out!
Thanks for your comments!

Nice list you have there. The only one I have an issue with is the one about not moderating comments. Even with Akismet in place or other spam plugin, sometimes the bad guys make their way through, and I’d rather not take the chance of having some of those publicized.
Very nice and useful indeed
@Mark: I do understand spam comments seep in with time, however if you check your blog each day then comment moderation wouldn’t be a necessity – atleast that’s the case here..
@Davinder: Glad you found it useful!
Thanks for your comments!
Ho Vijay,
Good tips.
Specially for the newbie bloggers.
It is true that comments makes blogs different from websites. They are the lifeline of a blog. They have to be taken seriously.
Thanks for the tips!
I think that writing passionately is probably the best way to get people to really connect with you and your content.
Here’s another way; Chris Brogan [http://www.chrisbrogan.com] recently dedicated a WHOLE post to the power of comments. He got people to start a discussion that existed entirely within the comments section.
Very clever of him. =)

Thank you for the solid tips and advice. I’m working on a project in the blogosphere myself recently, so figuring out how to give potential readers the best experience possible is on top of my mind.
These are all good tips. I think I have been doing that, but my comments have been few and far between.
I agree with “writing passionately”. As a passionate blogger myself, I tend to attract those with the same passions as I have. Passion also attracts more honest comments and makes one want to comment even more. Although most of my comments come via email, I am very happy with the responses I receive. Your points are well taken. Especially with the removal of spam. Spam detracts from my credibility, so I don’t allow it AT ALL! – Thanks again for the reminders. – Nards
Solid tips. Incentives have worked well for me too.
