Free Warning Label Generator

Sep 12, 2007 Author: Vijay | Filed under: Fun Services

Well, the name pretty much tells everything here as well. So I’ve got little left to explain.

All you have to do is:

  • Choose the warning label you want from the list of labels given.
  • Then select a symbol to be used in the warning label.
  • Then enter upto 6 lines of stuff which constitutes your warning message
  • Click the “Generate warning label” button to generate the label

You end up with a 500×250 JPEG image. The image size is not negotiable of course. Click on the image below to visit the site.

How to find out if your email has been read?

Sep 9, 2007 Author: Vijay | Filed under: Web Services

If you’ve ever been anxious to know if an important mail sent by you has been read by the recipient or not, then here is the perfect tool for you. SpyPig helps you to track your email and informs you via email the instant your email is read.

How do I use it?

It is pretty simple to implement SpyPig for any email message. First, you need to enter the email ID to which the tracking intimations are to be made, namely yours. Next, you can give a unique title to the current tracking you are setting up to differentiate it from any others. After doing this, you need to pick a custom tracking image for the tracking process. Then, clicking on the activate button generates a tracking image for you.

How does it work?

The tracking image that is provided, needs to be inserted in your email within 30 seconds of it being generated. To do this, you need to copy the location of the image (right click -> copy image location) and use it to insert it in your email. This means that the email you send must allow HTML formatting and not only plain text formatting and the same must be the case for the recipient. After this, simply send the email the usual way.

When the recipient views the email, he views the image as well. Since each image has a unique tracking ID in its location, it needs to be downloaded from the SpyPig server. For every such hit, SpyPig assumes that the recipient has viewed the email once. And instantly, you are sent a notification and you come to know that the email has been viewed. The tracking image can be a plain white one as well, to prevent the recipient from knowing about the tracking. Also, check out the specific requirements for Outlook users to implement this.

Disadvantages:

Thus for every single view of the image, you are intimated. So, if the person forwards your mail to others, then you get multiple notifications when each person views it. This may be annoying to most. However, I assume that only important emails need to be tracked and not every single mail needs it. Anyway, this is one flaw which needs to be overcome.

Also, the service depends only on the hit an image gets to determine if it has been opened or not. This may be interpreted in two ways.

  • You don’t have to do much work to do in implementing the tracker
  • Any accidental opening may also cause an intimation to be sent out (which is why you need to copy-paste the activation image within the 30 seconds activation time)

I would recommend that the activation time be increased to 1 minute to enable people to perform the copy-paste leisurely and not in a hurry. Also, privacy issues may arise if you use the tracking in any business conversation. So, I would advise you to restrict the usage with your friends alone to avoid problems.

Have you ever tracked an email before or tried this service out? Don’t forget to give me your comments on this. Thanks for reading!

David Airey, a logo designer, is celebrating the first anniversary of his graphic design blog and is offering gifts and services worth atleast $4000. Its not simply about the magnitude of the offers but the true value behind each one which would certainly be something most bloggers or webmasters would not want to miss.

How to enter:

Before giving a list of the prizes, let me just highlight the entry rules

  • Publish a blog post regarding the contest with a link back to the site with a logo related keyword like logo design for 1 entry
  • Link to the prize sponsors in the entry (1 entry for 5 sponsors)
  • Subscribe to RSS or by Email and mail him the contest code found in it for another entry

The Prizes:

The thing I was most impressed about the contest was that it was easy to enter and also that it is not a simple get lucky and win $50 contest. I found that most services or prizes offered are very useful and that is precisely the reason I dedicate an entire post to it. There are 3 major prizes, namely the gold, silver and bronze categories.

Gold Award:

This includes a Logo design from David Airey, custom WP theme from Nate Whitehill, advertising plan from Dosh Dosh, Blogging Tips by Lorelle VanFossen and free blog hosting at Media Temple.

Silver Award:

Includes Logo design from Tara Roskell, Website critique from Randa Clay, SEO consultation from Lyndon Atcliff and $60 worth books from Darren Rowse.

Bronze Award:

Includes Logo design from Jonathan, Blog optimization consulation with Daniel at DBT, Revolution theme from Brian Gardner and blog review from Phil.

Every person who enters will be eligible to win one prize. There are numerous individual prizes as well, from which you can win. Let me highlight a few interesting ones.

Other specific awards includes blog reviews and critiques from Blog-op, milienzo, Chilligavva, Hock Ng and Queer Chef.

Also available are advertising slots from Blog-Op, The Blogging Experiment, Contest Blogger and Freelance folder.

Blog consultations from Instigator blog, Wishful thinking, Rebecca Caroe, Business blogwire, Design sojourn.

This and many more prizes are being given away by David. The contest ends on September 26th and winners will be announced by the 1st of October. I personally feel that the prizes to be given out here will be very useful to me and I am sure every serious blogger would feel the same.

Will you take part in this contest and will the prizes being given here be of value to you? Let me know! And finally, hats off to David for coming up with this wonderful idea for a contest!

Send anonymous fake emails for free

Sep 7, 2007 Author: Vijay | Filed under: Privacy Protection

This site is basically for sending emails anonymously. That is, you can send mails to anybody you want, and you can make it seem like the mail is coming anybody you want.

This is really useful to send prank messages to the unsuspecting and you certainly can get a bang out of it.

Not only is it anonymous, you can make it appear to come from anyone you choose! Fancy winding up your mates? Your boss? Or anyone at all? Then head on over to the site and get sending!

There’s no signup, no registration, no fuss. You can even send fake emails with rich text; fonts, colours, etc.

Want to know how to do it?

Just follow the steps:

  • Enter the email ID of the sender
  • Enter the email ID of the receiver
  • Type in the subject
  • Enter your message (you can format it using a visual editor)
  • Enter the security captcha code
  • Click on the “send it” button

These are enough to send a fake email to anyone you want..

However there are limitations:

  • Due to excessive prank messages, the service adds a footer to every message stating it is a prank message
  • If a tech-savvy person looks at the full headers of the message, it will clear as crystal that it was sent by deadfake as is displays the X-mailer, X-originating IP and a whole host of related details.
  • Ensure that the domain name of the sender after the @ is a registered one with or without MX records. Otherwise the mail won’t be received.

The site is Deadfake, visit it and check it out. Have you ever sent a prank email? What sort of response did it get? Tell me about it!

On the sidelines, The Link Bait is hosting their first contest with 3 giveaways and it ends in, well, sometime from now. Check it out!

Sep 5, 2007 Author: Vijay | Filed under: Web-Based Tools

cl1p is a free online clipboard, message board and simply put, a place for sharing notes or messages. It is very simple to get a clipboard at cl1p. All one has to do is visit the site and choose a location of your choice for your clipboard.

For e.g if you want your clipboard located at www.cl1p.net/yourname, then all you have to do is to enter the name in the box in the homepage and you are immediately provided with a clipboard.

In this clipboard, you are able to add any notes or jottings as you wish. The functionality can be extended to a great amount. cl1p can also be used as a Rich Text editor or as a message board. This can be done by selecting the required options at the top of your clipboard.

In the plain text format, you are able to write down simple text only. Any code or text can be put here. The downside is that you cannot format the text here [no colors, bold etc]

However with the Rich text editor, you are able to format text using the usual formatting options. The message board option can be enabled and you can add messages to it just in the way a chat client works.

Why do I need this?

This can primarily be used to share text or notes with friends across the internet. Any jottings you make will be viewed by your friend and he/she can edit it as necessary. The clipboard link you get can be kept private. But if somebody else gets the link to it, they are able to edit it as well.

For this purpose, the clipboards also have a password protection feature. The people who possess the password can only edit/view the clipboard.

Also you can set the no. of days you want the clipboard to exist. The timeframe ranges from 1 hours to “As long as possible”.

You can set your own title for the clip you have. You also have the option to buy the particular cl1p. By doing this you get the following benefits.

No Advertisements.

cl1p is never erased.

Complete control over your cl1p. You can override any password.
