Website and Web Service Reviews
If you’ve ever been anxious to know if an important mail sent by you has been read by the recipient or not, then here is the perfect tool for you. SpyPig helps you to track your email and informs you via email the instant your email is read.

How do I use it?
It is pretty simple to implement SpyPig for any email message. First, you need to enter the email ID to which the tracking intimations are to be made, namely yours. Next, you can give a unique title to the current tracking you are setting up to differentiate it from any others. After doing this, you need to pick a custom tracking image for the tracking process. Then, clicking on the activate button generates a tracking image for you.
How does it work?
The tracking image that is provided, needs to be inserted in your email within 30 seconds of it being generated. To do this, you need to copy the location of the image (right click -> copy image location) and use it to insert it in your email. This means that the email you send must allow HTML formatting and not only plain text formatting and the same must be the case for the recipient. After this, simply send the email the usual way.

When the recipient views the email, he views the image as well. Since each image has a unique tracking ID in its location, it needs to be downloaded from the SpyPig server. For every such hit, SpyPig assumes that the recipient has viewed the email once. And instantly, you are sent a notification and you come to know that the email has been viewed. The tracking image can be a plain white one as well, to prevent the recipient from knowing about the tracking. Also, check out the specific requirements for Outlook users to implement this.

Disadvantages:
Thus for every single view of the image, you are intimated. So, if the person forwards your mail to others, then you get multiple notifications when each person views it. This may be annoying to most. However, I assume that only important emails need to be tracked and not every single mail needs it. Anyway, this is one flaw which needs to be overcome.
Also, the service depends only on the hit an image gets to determine if it has been opened or not. This may be interpreted in two ways.
I would recommend that the activation time be increased to 1 minute to enable people to perform the copy-paste leisurely and not in a hurry. Also, privacy issues may arise if you use the tracking in any business conversation. So, I would advise you to restrict the usage with your friends alone to avoid problems.
Have you ever tracked an email before or tried this service out? Don’t forget to give me your comments on this. Thanks for reading!

Interesting tool. May come in handy anytime
Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Tell me when you do use it!
Seems to be quite an interesting service, but I am not too sure whether I will use it, Also, wouldn’t the image get blocked by Gmail? You know how Gmail has a filter saying “Images blocked. Show images below. Always allow images from xxx@xxx.com
Wouldn’t this image be caught in that?
P.S. I enjoyed the disclaimer there –
”
SpyPig is intended just for fun. Any dispute, breakup, divorce or friend/family feud that begins with the I-know-you’ve-read-my-email speech must be dealt with quietly without harming the poor Pig in any way. Oink!
”
Images would be disallowed by gmail by default. So, that may be a problem.. As they state in their requirements page, if the email host blocks the images, they can do nothing about it. This tracking system is not fool proof anyway..
And yes, the disclaimer did crack me up! lol!
A neat tool, but I think it would be better if it was a universal thing, rather than just for email.
Last year I sold a website and the bidder took ages to respond even though I was 99% sure he read the private message. Oh well!
Looks like a good service. I’ll try using it for some mails.
Word Hugger, this can be used universally if HTML or image posting is supported. I don’t think this is restricted to emails only. As long as the service you use to send messages (forums) supports sending of images, you can use it there as well.. Since it depends only on the download of the particular image!
Do tell me if it works well, Nirmal!
Hmm, I see. I will try it in the next week or two if I remember, and let you know. Thanks
I haven’t tried it out the way I stated above, so I’ll be waiting to hear from you soon!
