Website and Web Service Reviews
This is basically a site for converting your videos from one format to another, online. Of course, the service is free for personal and non-commercial use as the author so eloquently puts it.

You are able to convert videos that are available on sites like YouTube , Google Video etc. All you have to do is enter the URI of the page containing the video [the page on which the video is embedded, as in the case of the above sites].
Example: hxxp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7385540094331665305
For videos at other locations, just type in the URI of the file.
Example: www.yoursite.com/video/sample.mpeg
It is essential that the location of the file is not local but global, meaning that files that are uploaded on the web can only be converted at the present. Conversion by uploading the files from your computer is not possible.
According to the site, YouTube and Google Video are supported. Information regarding support to other services like Metacafe is not available. In case you provide a link that does not contain a video file, an error message is shown. Regular video formats are accepted for conversion purposes.
There are 4 different options available in the site for conversion purposes:

Basic Mux:
This is just the run-of-the-mill converter. Just enter the URI of the video, the output format and your email ID and you are good to go.
Power Mux:
There exists a few advanced options like output video’s width and height, bitrate in kbps and fps, start time and length. For the advanced user [who wants to spend no money on pro software] only.
Mobile Mux:
This is for conversion of a video into a mobile format. 3gp or amr formats only available.
Second Life Mux:
The resulting URL provided to you after conversion of the video can be used by land owners at Second Life as their parcel’s media stream for one day.
+How It Works:
Once you enter the desired details and click on “go, go mux”, the conversion begins. First the file is downloaded from the given URI. Then the actual conversion takes place. This takes time depending on the size. A 9 Mib file took around a minute to download to their servers and the conversion took just over 20 seconds.
The link to the converted file would be provided as soon as the conversion is done. However, a copy of the link would be sent to the email address provided by you earlier. The converted files would remain on their servers for 1 day at the maximum. So, for larger files, you can check your inbox later for the link.
A 1.2 Mib YouTube video file I tested, ended up as a 150 KiB 3gp file after conversion. Pretty efficient I must say, for a free online converter. Do leave your comments on how you think this service is and what you have used it for. Thanks for reading!

On the sidelines, Contest Blogger has started a campaign to bring down Ashwin Khanna’s unfairly obtained linkbacks and I am proud to be a participant in it.
7 People have responded. What about you?
Quite a complex tool I guess
. I’d rather stick to Keepvid for downloading flv files
Well, for those who don’t want the files in the flv format, I guess they would have to put up with the complexities in this one
Nice Find Vijay, You are right, those who cannot use in .flv format they have to convert by one method. Online convertors are good. I use SUPER convertor, a free ware to convert from any video format to any other.
Flvix converts directly from youtube and offers only the converted file for you to download.. That would be useful for most I assume!
Every time I come to your blog I always find a new program or website to use! Thanks for sharing…You always have new and interesting stuff
I am extremely pleased to know that I have one more loyal visitor
