This may sound like yet another online shopping site, but the fact is that it isn’t. The difference between the usual shopping sites and this is that this site offers only one item per day for sale and they [by they, I mean the Woot team] call every product they sell, a deal for the customer.

So what is the big deal?

This site is run with the view to offer one deal a day to the visitors or customers [as you can call it]. There is exactly one item put up on sale at exactly 23:59 Central Time. The sale usually lasts for one whole day or until the stock is drained. This does not happen very every day, but it may if the item is seen by the people as a real “deal”. Since each item is supposed to be a “deal” and also that this seems to be a unique and novel concept, people flock to it and the stock disappears faster than you can say “woot, I want one”.

Along with each item that is put up for sale, there are the technical specs of that particular item being sold. But it is, as I say, for the layman and for the layman only. The specs are what you find as outlines on product brochures. Nothing too detailed, so as not to upset the less tech-savvy and more money-conscious visitor.

Anyway, along with the item put up on the main page, there is a huge orange “I want one” button screaming out at you. Well, you know what happens once that button is clicked, don’t you?

Usually, a shipping fee of 5$ is charged. But I think that may vary depending on the item being shipped. Also, most of the items being listed are electronic items and the like. However, I did see a few lamps and backpacks on sale as well. If you miss an item on the day it is put up, you cannot get it later, unless you track down a person who has purchased it and get it from him at gun-point.

Remember that there is no live customer support available. Better check up on the product details to see if it would actually useful to you before buying. The lack of the technical specs may cause problems if you fail to check compatibility and Woot does not hold responsibility.

In case of any manufacturing defect, you are advised to contact the manufacturer first and only approach Woot as a last resort.

As Woot says:

Will I receive customer support like I’m used to?
No. Well, not really. If you buy something you don’t end up liking or you have what marketing people call “buyer’s remorse,” sell it on eBay

How do I return a defective product?
Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or better item from them. If we still haven’t dissuaded you, email rma@woot.com with your woot order number, the name of the product you are returning, and the detailed problem with the item. We will respond with return authorization by the next business day. Because we aren’t likely to have a replacement in stock, you should be prepared for a refund-only option if that’s all we can do. Know that return freight will be at your expense. Again, you will probably get a better deal from the manufacturer, or whoever else handling customer service for that product.

And for people from any nation except the U.S of A, you are bound to be disappointed since Woot ships only to continental U.S.A and that does not include Alaska or Hawaii as well. So, have fun shopping. Do tell me if you think this service would be useful. Thanks for reading!
