Website and Web Service Reviews
DropBoks is a basically another free online file storage service. Here, you are able to store your files and retrieve them whenever you please. Once you arrive at the site, you are greeted with a simple, no-nonsense interface completely devoid of ads. Why I am mentioning this is because most free file storage or file sharing sites put up ads in just about any and every square pixel of area available on their site. This would actually make it seem like the site’s primary service is advertising. This site, however comes as a refreshing relief from such sites.
The upload area is, as the name suggests, a box!
For a first time user, you are presented with this box. As you always do, simply browse for the required file and click on the upload button that appears.
For unregistered users, the service stores cookies on your system to remember the files that you upload. If the cookies are wiped out, so will be the files. It is advised to register to use the service effectively.
The service allows you to upload upto 1 Gib of files in every box and upto 50 Mib in a single file of any format. You are able to upload multiple files at once clicking on the “+” button below the text box. Also, the upload area is a secure area to prevent unauthorized file access.
Purchasing more storage space is a feature planned for the future. Also this service will remain free from ads and only be reliant on donations from users.
There are however a couple of problems with cookies. One, once you sign up for an account and then logout, the cookies stored in your computer prevent the site from displaying the upload box and prompts you to log in. The second is the earlier problem of the cookie being used to store the files that you upload as an unregistered user. The latter problem however can be resolved by registering.
